SNCB/NMBS International passenger cars (I) and Sleeping cars (WL)International carriages are born in the 30's. The objective of SNCB/NMBS was to offer more robust cars, built in metal. They were also designed for the safety and comfort of travelers. In the 60's, SNCB/NMBS need to modernize their international trains. Two prototyps were construced: - A9, standard first class by La Brugeoise et Nivelles. - A4B5, standard mixed first-second class by Ateliers belges réunis (ABR). After that, SNCB/NMBS ordered: - 15 A9 by ABR. - 20 A4B6 by BN - 5 more A9 by Ragheno. At the end of his career, many of them have been downgraded for second class (B9). They ran until 1998 and none have been preserved. |

Originally delivered in green, some I5 Bc received "Railtour logo" for night trains organized by the agency. From 1973, there were painted in blue livery with light blue bands and/or with "Railtour logo" . Some I5 Bc received a rainbow headband in 1982. The light blue bands have been removed for others. At the end of the 80's, they received orange stripes. To match with the I6 Bc, I5 Bc were painted with pink stipes. Today, one I5 Bc (with pink stripes) is preserved in "Patrimoine ferroviaire et tourisme/Toerisme en spoor patrimonium" (512). Two of them were sold to the Nemo 33 swimming pool in Brussels. They use for accomodation for the diving certificates |

They were built to reinforce Belgian night trains and received a blue livery with pink stripes for night train livery. In 2019, 14 I6 Bc were sold to Regiojet. Today, they are all out of service. 3 of them are used by Wagon Service in Slovakia (602, 605, 612). |
