Motoráky 842 sú vďačným produktom porevolučnej produkcie MSV Studénka, ktoré napriek zastaralému hydromechanickému prenosu výkonu dokázali dostať na neelektrifikované trate komfort hodný vtedajšej doby.
A keďže sa už začiatkom v 90. rokoch sa na komfort cestujúceho pozeralo zo západoeurópskeho hľadiska, treba uznať, že bez väčších zásahov interiér spĺňa v podstate súčasné nároky. Alebo teda - čo požiadavky cestujúcej verejnosti už nespĺňalo, to bolo včas modernizované (pred 15 rokmi vákuové WC, v nedávnej dobe pridanie zásuviek a Wi-Fi).
Jediným negatívom je relatívne vysoká hlučnosť vozu (spôsobené umiestnením motoru pod podlahou).
Dá sa však povedať, že je vidno, že 842jky sú vydarené motoráky, a aj dosadenie ETCS tomu zrejme nasvedčuje. O to viac ma teší, že často s nimi cestujem, najmä v okolí Brna.
